What is CBT?

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and is known as a ‘talking therapy’ which can help you to manage your problems by helping you to change the way that you think and behave.

It helps you to work with your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to find a solution that is right for you

What can CBT help with?

CBT is considered to be the gold standard of therapy. It is known to help with a wide range of issues such as anxiety and depression. It can also help with more complex issues such as PTSD, OCD, Bipolar disorder and insomnia.

Most experts agree that CBT therapy is beneficial for people who do not suffer from a mental illness but wish to improve their overall emotional and psychological wellbeing.

CBT can be an effective alternative when medication is not an option due to allergies but can still be used in alongside pharmaceuticals.

Always speak to your doctor before making any changes which may affect your mental health and do not stop taking your medication without speaking to your doctor first.

How does it work?

At its most basic, CBT sees your negative thoughts, feelings, and actions as interconnected.  These patterns can repeat themselves in a vicious cycle of negativity.

CBT sessions are designed to reveal how negative thought patterns are inhibiting you from achieving wellness and your best potential.  Whether that’s in your career, personal relationships or overall happiness, CBT can help teach you how to manage them.

Our Qualified therapists will help you to identify these thoughts and work on changing your unhelpful thinking styles by tracking and changing negative and irrational thoughts.

What can I expect from a session?

One of the unexpected elements to CBT is that it can be emotionally exhausting. Whilst CBT is based on logic and action, it still requires you to speak about and confront your feelings. In the long run, it can help foster healthier emotions, better relationships and even increase productivity.

Therapy can feel draining. Like many practices that are good for our health, like quitting sugar, it can take time to adjust.  We may even feel worse before we feel better. In the long run it is better to confront uncomfortable  feelings.

It is important to take emotional energy into account. The process of therapy can be made easier by waiting for a less-busy period or scheduling your sessions at weekends or at the end of the day to allow yourself some time to rest after some serious unpacking.
