Tell us about your experience of therapy?
I was struggling with, anxiety, self confidence, issues within my family and dealing with issues caused by passed experiences.
It was very different from what I expected, but in a good way. I found it amazing having someone to talk to about my issues that could view them from a completely neutral perspective. I had somewhere between 10-20 sessions, I can’t remember exactly how many. I found as I did more sessions I constantly developed a good relationship with Kieran and we managed to work through a lot of the issues I was struggling to deal with.
Therapy led me to develop a lot of positive ways to deal with situations and I managed to get used to using these coping methods. I used a mantra that really helped my self confidence and just being able to talk to someone and let out a lot of pent up feelings helped my mood incredibly.
Kieran was extremely kind and understanding, and he was never judgemental. He took a really friendly approach to my therapy and I found that as a I am young guy he understood me a lot and that helped me feel comfortable during the therapy.
I would definitely see Kieran again if I needed more counselling/therapy. Anyone considering CBT should really give it a go. I honestly can’t think of any negatives, it really helped me change my view point on a lot of situations and I genuinely think I am a more positive person now because of it.
What would you say to someone who is considering therapy or needs support?
Don’t feel scared or nervous about therapy. Also don’t worry if you think there is any stigma. Going to therapy is much more common than you think and that is one thing I learnt that helped me feel comfortable going through with the CBT. There is no shame in going to therapy or sometimes needing help with your mental health, it is completely normal and of you feel you are struggling its one of the best things you could do.
Overall I found CBT extremely helpful and would recommend it to anyone. Kieran was extremely understanding and helped me so much.
